No — in fact, it's better to instruct a survey as early as possible in the buying process, ideally before you make an offer or at the very least before you exchange contracts. This gives you time to act on the findings, renegotiate if necessary, or withdraw from the purchase if serious issues are found.
You don't have to be present — we just need access to the property, which is usually arranged via the estate agent or vendor. However, if you'd like to attend at the end of the survey to talk through the findings on site, you're very welcome to do so. Many clients find this helpful.
We'll need the property address or postcode, the approximate age of the property, the property type (house, flat, commercial), the agreed purchase price (if known), and which type of survey you're interested in. If you're not sure on any of these, just provide what you have and we'll work from there.
